SACRED SOMATICS

Christ‑centered care for the body God made and the story it carries

Sacred Somatics™ is a ministry of Margins Ministries that helps women heal from trauma by attending to the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—under the authority of God’s Word. We pair clear, faithful biblical teaching with trauma‑informed practices such as breath‑prayer, grounding, and gentle movement so truth can settle not only in the mind but also in the nervous system.

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.” — Psalm 139:13

Sacred Somatics names a simple truth: trauma affects our bodies, not only our thoughts. God made us embodied souls (Genesis 2:7), and Scripture calls our bodies temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19–20). Somatic ministry honors that design. In practice, this looks like slow, safe, choice‑based exercises—paired with Scripture and prayer—that help the body release held stress while the heart receives the gospel.

What Sacred Somatics is not: It is not a self‑help trend, secular breathwork, or a spiritualized fitness class. It is not therapy and does not replace medical or mental‑health care. It is a biblically anchored way of responding to trauma’s effects with wisdom and tenderness, always pointing to Jesus.

Biblical Foundations

We take a conservative, theologically sound approach: practices are tethered to Scripture, framed by prayer, and never divorced from the local church or wise counsel.

How Sacred Somatics Works

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • Safety & Consent: You choose your level of participation at every step.

  • Simplicity: Short practices (2–10 minutes) woven into teaching and prayer.

  • Scripture‑First: Every practice is framed by a passage and a clear theological purpose.

  • Accessibility: Chair‑friendly, mobility‑adaptive, sensory‑wise.

  • After‑care: Options to debrief, journal prompts, and a simple “next right step.”

SAMPLE PRACTICES

  • Breath‑Prayer: Inhale “The Lord is my shepherd”; exhale “I shall not want.” (Psalm 23:1)

  • Grounding: 5–4–3–2–1 with a verse of assurance (Isaiah 41:10).

  • Lament Liturgy: Name loss, receive comfort (2 Cor. 1:3–4), release into God’s hands.

  • Open‑Handed Posture: Physically practice surrender (1 Peter 5:7).

  • Blessing the Body: Speak truth over God’s workmanship (Psalm 139).

WHO IS IT FOR

Women who…

  • Carry symptoms of stress or trauma (hypervigilance, shutdown, shame).

  • Long for peace with food, body image, and self‑talk.

  • Are neurodivergent and need choice‑based, sensory‑aware rhythms.

  • Want a Christ‑centered alternative to secular somatics.

FAQ

Is Sacred Somatics biblical?
Yes. We root each practice in Scripture, center every session on Christ, and keep our methods under the authority of God’s Word.

Is this therapy?
No. It’s a ministry practice. We encourage partnering with licensed counselors and physicians as needed.

Is this the same as yoga or breathwork?
No. While we may use gentle, everyday movements and paced breathing, our content, purpose, language, and posture are explicitly Christian and theological, not syncretistic.

What if I have mobility limits or sensory sensitivities?
Everything is optional and adaptable. We offer seated, standing, and stillness‑based alternatives.

Can my church host a Sacred Somatics workshop?
Yes. We serve churches and women’s ministries.
